DIVA Challenge #155 A Little White Space

This week our lovely DIVA, Laura Harms is requesting that we leave "a little white space" on our tiles.  I drew a string and picked some tangles that I haven't tried yet, leaving a space in the middle open.  The new tangles I tried are Showgirl (need to practice that a little more, mine came out looking more like Bunzo), Knot Rickz, Telis, and Bask-it, along with a little Purk and Zinger

Ornation Creation

There is a wonderful group on Facebook, called Ornation Creation.  The creator of the group, Ben Kwok designs and posts a template for anyone to use every week.  The majority of his templates are animals, but every once in awhile he posts some other very cool templates.  These templates are a lot of fun to fill in with zentangle patterns.  Before I taught my tan tile class, I made this one as an example of using black, brown, and white on tan paper.  Here's my eagle!

DIVA Challenge #154 Valentangle

This week's Diva challenge is to make a tile with a Valentine theme.  I have been wanting to try two new tangles; Heartline by Helen Williams and Fassett by Lynn Mead.  Both of them are fairly new and can be found on Tangle Patterns.  Both are great new tangles!

A "thank you" for a "thank you"

Yesterday's post was all about the wonderful group of people that attended the all day seminar at my house on Saturday.  Bill, who has taken 6 of my classes now, really surprised me with a hand made zentangle bag.  Yes, you heard right, hand made!  He gave it to me as a "thank you" for all of the classes.  I was really touched and I'm still overwhelmed with his generosity!  Check it out...this bag is gorgeous!  Thanks again, Bill.  It has been such a pleasure getting to know you and Teresa! Let's keep in touch!

Tan Tile & Organic Garden Class

Rick and Maria, co-founders of Zentangle, Inc. have said many times that Zentangle attracts the nicest people, and I couldn't agree more!   I have had a group of people that have taken anywhere from 2-5 classes with me (in my home basement classroom) and we all got together again on Saturday to finish up with an all day seminar on an Intro to Tan Tiles in the morning, and an Organic Garden class in the afternoon. Three of them are signed up to become CZT's, at all three seminars this year!  Congrats to CJ, Pat, and Holly!   We were going to just do sack lunches, until Pat said she could bring soup, and Holly said she'd bring brownies, and before we knew it everyone was really excited about doing a pot luck lunch.  I'd like to thank all of you again for the variety of yummy food we had!  (I forgot to take pics during our lunch)  It was a really fun day, and everyone enjoyed learning about the tan tiles, and creating a ZIA (zentangle inspired art) piece.  Take a look at their gorgeous work!

If you made it all the way to the end here....everyone in the class tangled a section of a tan tile and I made a white border on the mat.  At the end of the class we drew a name, and Diana was the lucky winner!

Zendala Dare #90

I don't often get the time to participate in the Zendala dare at The Bright Owl blog, but this week Erin is celebrating her birthday!  As part of her celebration, she is asking everyone to complete this week's template with one of your favorite tangles as a gift to her.  She in turn will use each of tangles she is gifted every week in her dares until they are gone...fun idea!  I can't really say I have a favorite tangle anymore, because I like so many of them, but I used 3 of my favorite "go-to" tangles, Paradox, Printemps, and Flux.  Happy Birthday, Erin

DIVA Challenge #153 UMT: Jailed Johnny

It's the beginning of another month, so we are using a tangle by CZT, Sadelle Wiltshire named Jailed Johnny for the DIVA's challenge this week.  This tangle was new to me, and I found it fun and easy to do.  I hope all of you are having a good week and staying warm.  The high expected for the day here, is in the single digits!  I am glad I can stay in and prepare for my all day class here Saturday with 8 students (who have become friends).  We will be learning to tangle on the tan tiles in the morning, have a pot luck lunch, and create an organic tangle garden in the afternoon...can't wait!
